On-The-Road Seminar

Kevin Rund, from the Illinois Farm Bureau will be here August 31st with his On-the-Road seminar. It will be a 90 minute seminar beginning at 7 p.m. addressing two recently implemented federal trucking rules. There is no cost for the seminar but registration is requested.  The Illinois Farm Bureau has launched a new multi-media website, www.farmweeknow.com.  The website will provide internet users witha  variety of news with an Illinois and agricultural focus from the staffs of FarmWeek and RFD Radion.  FarmWeekNow.com offers the Illinois Farm Bureau more opportunities to display multi-media videos, audio reports, photo galleries and downloadable files related to current FarmWeek stories.  

Kids Farm Safety Camp Meeting

There wil be a Farm Safety Camp meeting on Monday July 20th at 12:00 PM at the Knox Agri Center. Anyone interested in becoming a committee member should contact the office at 342-2036.

 

 

 

Gale 4th Graders Win Pizza Party

Ms. Greene's fourth grade class at Gale School received a pizza party after Allison Ettinger won the poster contest sponsored by the Knox County Farm Bureau Women's Commitee. Area students were asked to create a poster depicting "What Agriculture Means to Me" using what they learned from the Annual Ag Day for Kids held at Carl Sandburg College.  Before the pizza party Ms. Aggie gave the students  a lesson on pizza. Allison Ettinger was also presented with a gift certificate to Dairy Queen for winning the poster conest.

      Thrill-seeking Farm Bureau members and their families can once again purchase discounted tickets to seven Mid-Western theme parks.  A family of four can save as much as $94 at some theme parks, once again proving your Farm Bureau membership has great value.
     Discounted tickets to are available to Six Flags great America in Gurnee; Six Flags St. Loius in Eureka, MO; Silver Dollar City at Branson, MO; Kings Island near Cincinnati, OH; Ragin Rivers in Grafton, IL; Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN; and Adventureland near Des Moines, IA.  Tickets can be purchased through the Knox County Farm Bureau by contacting us at 342-2036 or stopping by the office.
 

 Adopt-an-Animal  

 
April was the month that classrooms got a visit from their farm animal for the "Adopt-an-Animal program.  Classrooms from Kindergarten through 3rd grade had the opportunity to sign up for the visit.  The animals that visited included:  Kindergarten-Sheep, First grade- Pigs, Second grade- Calves, and Third grade- goats.  Students were able to see, touch, hear, and learn about the animals first hand.  The "Adopt-an-Animal" program was made possible through Ms. Aggie and the Ag in the Classroom program.
 

 

Family Video Joins Membership Discount Program 

Family Video, located at 1095 E. Main Street in Galesburg is managed by Heather  Courson. Heather has been employed by Family Video for four years and has been at the Main Street location for two years. The Main Street location has been open since 2004 and they currently have 12 employees. Bring in A's on your report card during the month of June and receive a free rental. This offer is open to any student Kindergarten through college. They offer a free $1 movie with the rental of any new release. Discounts are accepted at both the Main and Losey Street locations

Showmanship Clinic

On Saturday May 30th the Knox County Young Farmers held a showmanship clinic at the Knox County Fairgrounds. Sheep, beef, and swine were covered during the event. Rich and Sarah DeSchepper taught the sheep portion, Matt Johnson taught beef and Miranda and Roger Malone educated the exhibitors on swine. Each session concentrated on care, maintenance, show preparation, and handling of the animal relevant to the species. A session on animal ethics was also given by Cassie Link. Youth attending were given the opporunity to sign up for prizes, which were awarded after each species.
 
 

 

Defensive Driving Course

The Knox County Farm Bureau will be sponsoring a Defensive Driving Course at the Knox County Agri Center on August 19th and 20th. The Course will be from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day and there is a cost of $15, which includes lunch. The course is open to people 55 and older who are auto policy holders. Those completing the course are eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. If you are interested in attending this Defensive Driving Course, please call

Summer Ag Institue II scheduled for July

 
The Knox County Farm Bureau along with Henry, Mercer, Stark, and Warren-Henderson Farm Bureaus are proud to present the Summer Ag Institue II program- Agriculture Discovery:  Behind the Scenes.  This course will last three days and take place in Galesburg, Peoria, and the Quad Cities.  Teachers have the option of taking the class for 24 CPDU's or 2 graduate credits.  Summer Ag Institute II will take place July 14th, 15th, and 16th.  For more information check out the Summer Ag Institue II flyer.
  
  

 

2009 Knox County Plat Books are Available!

 
The new 2009 Knox County Plat books have arrived and can be purchased at the Knox County Farm Bureau office or from the Knox County Courthouse.  These plat books offer several unique and appealing features such as a School District Map, a County Highway Map, and a map of Oak Run Subdivision.  The price for the new plat books is $3- for members and $35 for non-members, plus tax.
